On the Toronto musical scene, Toronto Sinfonietta is truly unique. Since its inception in 1986, the orchestra has captured the city’s imagination by presenting groundbreaking concert programming to capacity houses. Classical, jazz, film scores and music from a variety of cultures, along with new pieces commissioned by gifted local composers, is blended to achieve its signature style.
The critically acclaimed CD recording, Romancing Chopin – featured numerous times on CBC Radio – introduces the listener to new interpretations of the popular Polish composer’s music, and is a permanent testimony to Toronto Sinfonietta’s distinctive approach to programming.
Toronto Sinfonietta is proud of its longstanding community partners, including the Oakham House Choir of Ryerson University, Royal Ontario Museum and University of Toronto School of Music.
Toronto Sinfonietta fills a void in our city already replete with cultural abundance. It not only presents traditional classical works, classical pops and contemporary music, but it seeks to challenge, connect, and captivate audiences with the spirited edge programming.
Led with extraordinary dedication by Maestro Matthew Jaskiewicz, Toronto Sinfonietta has been presenting exceptional concerts for over 25 years. Its talented artistic team, committed staff, enthusiastic volunteers, and devoted fans, create a wonderful atmosphere that has made it a success.
For 9 years, Toronto Sinfonietta has been organizing an annual Concerto Competition for young musicians under the age of 19, to select among the many talented students and artists in our region the best performers who will ultimately appear as soloists on the stage with Toronto Sinfonietta.
Highlights of 2014-2015 season include a festive Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass and a joyful Last Night at the Proms featuring Oakham House Choir, and the 9 th edition of Toronto Sinfonietta’s Young Musicians Gala.
